Getting the size right before you buy
The two ways a sofa purchase goes wrong are buying one that swamps the room and buying one that won’t come through the front door. Both are avoidable with a tape measure. Along the wall, the sofa should leave room to walk past and breathe — not fill the span end to end — which is why this tool reserves a walkway when it works out the recommended maximum length.
The delivery problem is separate. A sofa is tipped on its end and carried through, so it is the depth of the sofa, not its length, that has to clear the doorway. Check the narrowest opening on the whole route, and remember you can often buy a few centimetres back by taking the door off its hinges or unscrewing the feet.

Will my sofa fit through the doorway?
A sofa is usually carried through a door on its end, so the limiting dimension is the sofa's depth (front to back) against the door's clear opening width. If the doorway is at least as wide as the sofa's depth, it will generally pass; if it is narrower, you may need to remove the door from its hinges, take off the feet, or angle it. This tool reports the doorway clearance so you can see how much room you have — or how much you're short.
What clearance should I leave in front of a sofa?
Aim for roughly 90 cm of clear floor in front of the sofa for a comfortable walkway, or at least 45 cm if a coffee table sits in that space. The tool subtracts the sofa depth from the room depth to show the walkway left in front; if that's below your target it flags the fit.
Should I measure the doorway, hallway, and turns too?
Yes. A sofa can clear the final doorway yet still be stopped by a tight hallway, a stair turn, or a low ceiling on the way in. Measure the narrowest point on the whole route and the diagonal of any corner the sofa must pivot around. This tool checks a single doorway width against the sofa depth as a first-pass sanity check, not the full delivery path.
Does the room area matter for choosing a sofa?
Room area gives a sense of scale — a large sectional can overwhelm a small room even if it technically fits along one wall. The tool shows the room area so you can weigh proportion alongside the length and walkway checks.
